The Rock Steady Boxing method has been helping people fight back against Parkinson’s disease since 2006.

Classes use traditional boxing drills such as punching the heavy bag, shadow boxing and foot work drills to combat the symptoms of Parkinson’s. Unlike traditional boxing classes at the gym, our one hour classes also work on voice activation, dexterity, balance and posture to ensure every aspect of the disease is addressed.

Every boxer in our program is fighting back against Parkinson’s disease allowing for an exceptional support system and camaraderie.

Jennifer Schlegel and Lindsay Perez have formed an unstoppable team to help you fight back against Parkinson's disease! Combined, they have 30 years experience in boxing, training and physical therapy. We are very excited to bring this amazing program to the Rochester area!

Each participant is thoroughly evaluated by a physical therapist prior to participating in class. Re Evaluations are done periodically to show  improvements in balance and fitness as well as identify areas that need continued focus.

Research shows that 2.5 hours of exercise per week will help combat the symptoms of PD. Those 2.5 hours have to be at the correct intensity to get the benefit! ESPN compared boxing to 60 other sports and determined it was the most intense form of sport on the planet! Most people are not comfortable working outside of their comfort zone at this level on their own. Benefit from the guidance of certified Rock Steady boxing coaches!

Rock Steady Boxing is designed specifically to address the unique symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. You must have an official diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease in order to participate in RSB classes with Fighting Chance Rochester. There are many other conditions that can be improved with exercise, specifically boxing. If you feel you would benefit, but do not have PD, please contact our physical therapist Lindsay Perez, MSPT to discuss a program for you. lindsay@fightingchancerochester.com
Give us a call to set up your assessment appointment at 585-469-0201. If you would like to observe a class prior to committing to the assessment please call ahead so that we can direct you to the class level most appropriate for you.
The assessment is necessary for correct placement in either our Level 1/2 or Level 3/4/5 class. The assessment allows us to establish some baseline physical tests so that we can measure progress.
